It started as
one man's airplane.
Spacek designs and builds the SD-1, the SD-2 and the engines. SD Planes USA is the U.S. distributor for those aircraft and engines.
From a personal project to an aircraft family.
The SD-1 was not designed by committee. It was one engineer's own airplane, built to be light because light was the point, and it became a product because other people wanted one.
- 2007
- Igor Spacek founds Spacek in the Czech Republic, after working as a freelance engineer in the aircraft industry.
- The SD-1
- Begins as Igor's own amateur aircraft project. Interest in the design leads to kit production.
- Europe
- Spacek subsequently develops the SD-1 for European markets, including versions operating under German LTF-UL requirements.
- Landing gear
- The tailwheel version comes first; tricycle gear follows.
- Engines
- Spacek develops its own small four-stroke engine program, based on industrial-engine architecture.
- 2011
- Design work begins on the two-seat SD-2 SportMaster.

Spacek builds the airplanes. We are the people who bring them to the United States, sell them here, answer the phone here and keep parts here.
Parts of that are running now and parts are being stood up. Where something is still developing, we say so on the page rather than letting you find out later.

This is not a revival.
The SD-1 has been in the United States before. An earlier company marketed it here as a light-sport aircraft, and an earlier distributor represented Spacek in the U.S. and Canada.
That history is worth knowing, and some of it — construction photography, documentation, lessons — is genuinely useful. Its pricing, packages and regulatory positioning are not ours and are not current.
The SD-1 comes to the United States today as an Experimental Amateur-Built aircraft. That is the program we are running, and it is the only one we describe.
